Background

In September 2024, Project Crescent was launched to address a critical need: finding a permanent, properly zoned location for the 743 Como Lake Musallah. Due to zoning restrictions, we had to pause Jummah Salat at our previous location and started offering it at the Coquitlam Public Library, Poirier Branch till October 2025.  

In Nov 2025, Alhamdulillah, Allah gave the community a new location at Unit #202-504 Cottonwood Ave. Coquitlam. The lease was signed in October 2025 by AlHikmah Educational foundation and the community offered its first Juammah Salat at the new location on 14th of November 2025.

Now, the new Musallah needs some renovation work for which we need the Muslim community to come forward and contribute. The initial work includes removing walls for better space utilization, installing additional sinks for Wushu in the bathroom and placing new carpets. For this we have launched a fund raising campaign. Details follow:

Board of Directors

Abdul Noor Thanvi

Abdul Noor Thanvi, a respected community leader, co-founded the Cottonwood Mussalha in Coquitlam in 2010 with Shaikh Saami. Starting as a small prayer space in an apartment building, the Mussalha quickly became a hub for Muslims, offering daily prayers, Friday congregations, and Quran classes.

When the original building was demolished in 2018, Abdul Noor led the community through challenges, organizing temporary prayer and class spaces at various locations, the latest on 743 Comolake Avenue. His resilience ensured continuity despite obstacles like space limitations and parking issues.

His unwavering dedication and leadership continue to inspire and shape the lives of many.

Abdul Hafeez

Abdul Hafeez, a respected businessman and community leader, is renowned for his commitment to the Muslim community in British Columbia. Through his business ventures and initiatives, he has tirelessly worked to promote unity, spiritual growth, and support for Muslims across the province.

Abdul Hafeez leadership has fostered opportunities for collaboration and personal growth within the community, ensuring that its members can thrive both personally and professionally.

His unwavering dedication and vision for a prosperous and united BC Muslim community continue to inspire and leave a lasting impact.

Sheikh Khalid Sidat

Sheikh Khalid Sidat is a respected Islamic scholar, educator, and community leader serving as the Resident Imam of Masjid-ul-Huda. Born and raised in Canada, Sheikh Khalid memorized the Holy Quran at just 16 years old, pursued engineering at BCIT, and later deepened his Islamic knowledge at the renowned Darul Uloom Zakariyyah in South Africa, earning Ijazah in Quran Recitation, Fiqh, Tafseer, and Hadith.

An advocate for education and leadership development, he established a dedicated Islamic school for boys, nurturing future leaders. Currently pursuing his Master’s degree, Sheikh Khalid continues to inspire through his engaging approach and unwavering commitment to fostering unity and spiritual growth within the Lower Mainland community.

Hafiz Shahid Umar

A Hafiz-e-Quran and Qari, he holds Ijaza from the esteemed Sheikh Umer Bakr Aljohari of Egypt. With an MBA in Marketing and a specialization in MIS, he brings over 20 years of expertise in technology and project management. Upon migrating to Canada, he dedicated himself to serving the Muslim community, reflecting his passion for faith and service.

Currently, he is pursuing a 8-year Aalim course (Dars-e-Nizami) and actively contributes to the community through multiple roles. In Ramadan 2024, he led Taraweeh prayers at 743 Comolake Mussallah and now delivers the Friday Khutbah for the Coquitlam community at the Coquitlam Public Library. Additionally, he conducts Quran classes for children and adults at 743 Comolake Mussallah, fostering a deeper connection with the Quran across generations.
